# Installation

Install the Umbraco Automate NuGet package and verify that the Automation section is available in the backoffice.

Umbraco Automate is distributed as a NuGet package. Install it into your Umbraco project to add the automation engine, backoffice section, and built-in triggers and actions.

## Install the Package

Add the package using any of the methods below:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title=".NET CLI" %}

```bash
dotnet add package Umbraco.Automate
```

{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Package Manager Console" %}

```powershell
Install-Package Umbraco.Automate
```

{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## Package Contents

The `Umbraco.Automate` package bundles everything needed for the core engine, including core services, backoffice UI, Management API, and database migrations.

## Verify Installation

Build and run your Umbraco site. The first run applies the Umbraco Automate database migrations to the configured database.

After the site starts, a new **Automation** section is available in the backoffice.

{% hint style="info" %}
**User permissions** — Automate adds its own backoffice section. If you cannot see the Automation section, grant your user group access:

1. Go to **Users** > **User Groups**.
2. Edit the relevant user group, for example *Administrators*.
3. Enable **Automation** in the **Sections** list.
4. Save the user group.
5. Refresh your browser.
   {% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.umbraco.com/umbraco-automate/17.latest/getting-started/installation.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
